This is a Watts PVB but all pvbs look similar and have the same cut-off handles and test cocks. When the cut-off handles are running the same direction as the pipe it is on (like the picture), then it is turned on. If they are perpendicular to the pipe then it is shut off. The pvb is usually located by the house in the front, corner or right on the side of the house up front. It could even be in a plastic hot box. It will be from one to four feet above the ground on pipes. |
To test if you have a master valve you will need a screwdriver. Take the screwdriver and turn the little screw on the test cock 1/4 turn. Water should come out. Be sure and don't stand in front of the opening. Let it run for about three or four seconds. If you still have a lot of water pressure coming out you don't have a master valve. If no water or water starts to come out and then the pressure drops off and then stops you have a master valve. |
